For as long as I can remember, as a parish priest in Canada, each year Good Samaritan took part in Samaritans Purse, Operation Christmas Child. Filling, over the years, many hundreds of shoeboxes with small gifts for children around the world. Annually there was a blessing of the shoeboxes Sunday when I prayed over these gifts that God would use them miraculously so that the children in various parts of the world would not only receive these material things, but that these material things would be so blessed that the Holy Spirit would use them to send a message of love to those who would receive them.
We prayed that the Lord would use Samaritans Purse for the furtherance of the Kingdom. We prayed that the boys and girls who received these gifts would hear with it, the gospel story and that they might come to believe the gospel to be true, that they would put their faith in the son of God, the Lord Jesus. We prayed that they would follow Him as Lord and Saviour.
I am now the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Mahajanga, Madagascar and this afternoon I will, with a group of Christians including the Reverend Mamy, one of my priests, share with Malagasy children Samaritans Purse Christmas shoe boxes. How amazing is that??!!
After years of filling them, praying over them, and sending them off to various parts of the world, today I will, as a missionary Bishop, have the great privilege of handing them out. I’m delivering them in the Bishop’s Truck! You can’t make this up!
!
I will see firsthand how Operation Christmas Child shares the gospel and of how it blesses boys and girls.
That’s wonderful!
